Why GOTS or OEKO-TEX?

Why GOTS or OEKO-TEX?

What does it mean to have a GOTS or OEKO-TEX certification, and why it's important for your baby?

As a new parent, one of the most important things you can do is ensure that your little one is surrounded by safe and healthy products.  From the clothes they wear to the bedding they sleep on, every little thing can have an impact on their health and wellbeing. That's why it's important to understand what OEKO-TEX and GOTS certification means, and why it matters for you and your baby. Understanding the certifications on the products you choose for your baby can give you peace of mind knowing that they meet strict safety and environmental standards.

What Is GOTS? The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an essential certification to look out for when shopping for your baby. GOTS is recognized as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. This means that textiles with a GOTS certification are not only made from organic fibers but are also produced in a way that’s environmentally and socially responsible. Therefore, choosing GOTS-certified products for your baby ensures you are prioritizing both their health and the health of the planet. Why OEKO-TEX and GOTS Matter for your Baby’s Health and Safety Babies have sensitive and delicate skin that is more susceptible to irritations and allergies. OEKO-TEX and GOTS-certified products are free from harsh chemicals, making them safer and kinder to your baby's skin. Promoting a non-toxic setting: Infants typically rest on crib sheets and in swaddles. If verified by OEKO-TEX and GOTS, these products ensure your baby's safety from harmful substances. I knew from a young age that I was different from my siblings, but similiar to my Cousins, Uncles and Aunties that suffered from Eczema and Asthma quite severly, I had relatively minor allergic reactions to various fabrics, animals and dust! However; much to my mums annoyance I hated clothing labels and shyed away from strong scents like perfumes and 'plug-in' room fresheners because they made me feel queazy? It wasn't until adult life that I realised; that not only are these chemicals harmful, they're also a major player in Allergies? My cousin Ash, as well as many of my friends' children and my own daughter (born 10 years later) had huge reactions to food groups, washing detergent and household chemicals?? After having a son who was only allergic to tomatoes...this was quite a different ball game. So as I had done many times before (with my IBS and food intolerances)......I once again ventured down the path of investigation. I gave up dairy completely whilst feeding Jemimah....but she continued to projectile vomit after every feed. This was due to a Soya intolerance (quite common for those intolerant to dairy -but unbeknown to me!) Although this calmed the sickness..she was still congested and seemed to have a Cold no matter what the season? This led me to the discovery of GOTS tested fabrics and materials - which ended up being a complete game changer! Within weeks of changing Mimah's bedding, not only did we discover that she stopped coughing, but she became less congested! In other words, she no longer kept waking up in the night, unable to breathe, because we had eliminated the mucous!! I had learned that dairy and chemicals still present in regular bedding caused mucous...which was making her cough, and in turn keeping the whole house awake!! That is my personal journey, but GOTs and OEKO tex certifications also mean sustainable and ethical working practices. Promoting sustainability: By choosing products with these certifications, you are supporting sustainable and responsible practices in the textile industry. This helps reduce the environmental impact of textile production and ensures a healthier future for your baby. For parents seeking peace of mind: The multitude of worries and concerns that come with parenting can be overwhelming. Opting for OEKO-TEX and GOTS certified products, offers assurance that your baby is encompassed by safe and healthful textiles. By choosing products with an OEKO-TEX or GOTS certification, you can feel confident that you’re making the best decisions for your baby. With greater transparency, environmental responsibility, and strict limits on harmful chemicals, OEKO-TEX and GOTS provide a globally recognized standard for baby products that you can trust. .
